In 2015, Rob was training for the Santa Cruz Ironman. A week before the race, Rob was on a training ride when he lost control of his bike on a downhill switch back turn. He ended up crossing over the oncoming lane and went over the side of a hill. Due to a burst fracture in his lumbar spine, Rob needed a spinal fusion. This left his paralyzed.
While in the hospital, Rob set a goal of completing a triathlon one year from his accident. Rob not only accomplished his goal, but he competed in a total of three triathlons that next year.
Since that first year, Rob has continued to compete in a variety of Ironman races. However, there have been some mechanical issues with his racing chair & it does not fit him correctly. These issues have prohibited Rob from reaching his full potential and finishing these races.
With the help of our friends at the Kelly Brush Foundation, Rob was able to get his properly fitted racing wheelchair that he will be able to use to compete in races for years to come!
“The grant was edification that my journey and goals make a positive impact on others; and this grant will enable me to continue to in that mission."
