Victoria’s Victory Foundation is transforming lives in Los Banos, CA. Local resident 11-year-old Luke Germino, who was severely injured on his school playground, recently received a scholarship for activity based training at SCI-FIT Fresno. These sessions, which are not covered by traditional insurance, improve mobility and health for individuals with spinal cord injuries..
In 2023, Luke Germino accidentally ran into a set of metal bars while playing football during recess. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors worked relentlessly to treat a life-threatening internal abdominal injury. On November 20th, Luke was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, resulting in a loss of movement from the shoulders down, as well as osteoporosis in both of his legs. Presently, he uses a wheelchair and an array of adaptive mobility equipment.
Despite the many hardships throughout his journey, Luke remains motivated to regain strength and dedicated to his daily activities and studies. “Without this scholarship, the cost of this level of care would be out of reach for our family…” says Luke’s mother, Ali Germino. Victoria’s Victory Foundation has given her son “the opportunity to keep pushing forward, working toward independence, and living as fully as possible.”
