Accessibility skyrockets at Planet Playground

Planet Playground in Exeter has recently undergone an exciting transformation to become more accessible and ADA-friendly. Victoria’s Victory Foundation, founded on the belief in empowering individuals with mobility disabilities, was proud to support this life-changing project.

What was once an aged wooden structure has been reimagined into a welcoming, inclusive space for all children. The old woodchip flooring has been replaced with smooth rubber surfacing, making the playground easier to navigate for those using wheelchairs, strollers, or walkers. New ramps now provide greater access throughout the play area, opening up opportunities for children with mobility disabilities to explore alongside their peers.

The playground also features an inclusive glider designed by Miracle Recreation. This unique piece of equipment uses a “push-pull motion” that supports the development of balance, coordination, eye tracking, and muscle tone. As a result, this provides fun and therapeutic benefits for kids of all abilities.

At Victoria’s Victory Foundation, we believe spaces like this are essential. Our hope as a nonprofit is that more playgrounds and public facilities will follow Exeter’s example by taking intentional steps to create environments that welcome everyone. As disability advocate Brooke Ellison once said, “What disabled people can do in life depends very much on how the world around them is designed.”
