Meet Rhett
Rhett is a sixteen year old living with Cerebral Palsy. He took driver's education, but needed specialized hand controls to complete the driving portion and earn his driver's license.
Rhett has remained active and engaged in numerous adaptive sports. He participates in wheelchair, adaptive waterskiing, hand cycling, and fishing. Rhett is has aspirations of being able to drive like his peer and one day pursuing a career in video editing and technology.
“The overall costs of making life adaptions for an individual with disabilities is very high. As a family, we have tried to do as much as we can out of pocket, but some situations are simply beyond our reach. Assistance with driving adaptive equipment is one of these situations.”
A Victory Scholarship from VVF provided Rhett with the hand controls he needed for his vehicle, removing a significant barrier to his independence.
"The device has allowed me access to legal driving based on my disability. Allowing me to pursue opportunities such as employment and to be more independent."
