Tyler was having a pretty normal day when she noticed a bit of pain in her upper back and neck. Because she worked out frequently, she didn’t think too much of this because she figured she might have tweaked a muscle. However, a few short hours later she was in unbearable pain and couldn’t move her hands. She ended up going to the ER, where she waited 7 hours to be seen. By the time she had an MRI, she couldn’t stand or go to the bathroom. Tyler spent over two weeks in the hospital before she found out she had a blood clot in her spine, or a spinal stroke. Her right leg and both hands were paralyzed as a result.
A year later, Tyler has regained a lot of mobility back, but she is still working on strengthening her right side specifically. Tyler has worked incredibly hard to get to this point, but she was noticing that only attending sessions once a week at Back to Independence rehab, was not enough for her to continue seeing progress.
A Victory Scholarship allowed Tyler to increase her training schedule to two days a week and continue to see progress. We are honored to be a part of Tyler’s journey and can’t wait to continue seeing all the progress she makes in her journey.
“This Victory Scholarship means I can continue to work on my strength and becoming more independent without putting a financial strain on my family.”
