In April 2022, Shane suffered two spinal strokes within the course of five days. The first spinal stroke impacted his spinal cord at the C5/C6 level and the second occurred at the T1/T2 level, leaving Shane a quadriplegic with very limited use of his hands.
Shortly after being released from the hospital, Shane found Project Walk Boston, an activity based recovery center that could help him make progress in his recovery. Unfortunately, with this being an out of pocket expense, Shane was not able to attend the sessions consistently.
A Victory Scholarship allowed Shane to increase the frequency in which he attends Project Walk Boston and keep working towards his goals.
“Being awarded this Victory Scholarship will allow me to continue building my strength and mobility. Receiving this scholarship is more than just the physical recovery it's the continuation of creating my independence and improving my mental health.”
