After a catastrophic fall on a solo mountain bike ride, Ryan found himself on his back watching the San Diego sun set, unable to move anything below his neck. He was able to use his Apple Watch to call 91. Ryan spent the next 19 days in the ICU fighting for his life with a severe spinal cord injury.
When Ryan was released from the hospital, he unfortunately had to pause his college education. Besides missing his active lifestyle, one of his biggest challenges was streamlining his daily routine. Eager to get back to school and to start traveling again, he knew something had to change.
A Victory Scholarship provided that change by funding a commode bathroom and shower chair, giving Ryan the independence to roll it to the bathroom to use the toilet in private and use it as a shower wheelchair. Gaining these two functions that were otherwise happening bedside has allowed Ryan to get back to the parts of his life he was so desperately missing.
“I would like to thank Victoria’s Victory Foundation for providing equipment that is not covered under insurance. I am a driven individual looking to get back into the workforce to better society as a whole. Thanks to Victoria’s Victory Foundation, I am able to look forward to doing so with confidence, get back outdoors and spend time with my friends and family.”
