What started as a chest cold that would not go away, ended with a diagnosis of Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) for Melissa. Day-to-day activities were becoming extremely difficult as she found she couldn’t shower without a chair, fold laundry standing, do dishes or change sheets. Afraid of falling and fainting, she was left with no choice but to rely on a wheelchair.
Melissa was barely leaving her house and missing doing all of the activities she loved, including keeping up with her children. A Victory Scholarship propelled Melissa back in action with Permobil Smart Drive, a wheelchair power assist device that allows her to participate in day to day activities with her family with less risk of fainting or falling. She’s finally able to fulfill her and her children’s basic needs with confidence and leave the house without fear. The device also gives Melissa the chance to heal, providing stabilization to avoid more tendon tearing and surgeries.
“My life has changed substantially. Because of my Victory Scholarship, I have freedom and the ability to feel whole again. I finally have control over my own body when I haven't in so long!”
