“This scholarship means the world to me. It means that my mind and body can relax, knowing that I will be able to keep myself active and healthy, without having to worry about the financial burdens that come with it. Because of my Victory Scholarship I will be able to be the best version of myself.”
Since Lance was young, he was always an avid lacrosse player. However, when he was 17, his world turned upside down during a game when a hit from another player left him with a C4 spinal cord injury.
With the support of his family and community, Lance embarked on a grueling journey of rehabilitation. Over the past five years, he has made significant progress, but the road ahead is still long and challenging at times.
Today, Lance is a 22 year old student at North Carolina State University studying mechanical engineering. He found a activity based training facility close to campus that would allow him to keep working towards his current goal of living independently. Lance has also found that attending these sessions on a regular basis allows his body to keep making progress, whereas if he isn’t on a consistent schedule he noticed a quick regression.
However, the cost of ongoing sessions is overwhelming. These sessions are crucial for both his physical and emotional well-being. A Victory Scholarship allowed Lance to start attending on a consistent schedule and keep working towards his goals.
