In September 2018, Juan was in a car accident where he was ejected from the car and landed on the other side of the street. This accident resulted in a spinal cord injury and Juan was told he would not be able to move anything below his neck.

However, Juan worked hard to prove them wrong. In his words, “for the past five years, I have done everything in my power to get back to having a decent quality of life.” Today, Juan is able to control his power wheelchair on his own.

This is a tremendous victory, but Juan has more goals he’s looking to accomplish. Unfortunately his training sessions are not covered by insurance and five years following his accident, Juan and his family were finding it increasingly difficult to afford this out of pocket expense.
