Meet Cheri

“This scholarship has allowed me to continue breaking barriers and proving doctors wrong. It has motivated me to progress physically and mentally. It has given me the confidence & meaning to never give up.”

When Cheri was 18, she was diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, a neurological disorder. Within two weeks of being diagnosed, Cheri was paralyzed and was unable to eat, swallow or talk on her own. Over the next few years, Cheri worked hard to re-learn how to talk, write, and eat. However, she reached a point in her journey where she had plateaued and was not making any more progress. She eventually discovered Project Walk New Jersey and soon after starting sessions there, was beginning to see progress again.

While the progress Cheri has made was lifechanging, she was always worried about plateauing again if she couldn’t afford the sessions. As this is an expense that has to be paid out of pocket, overtime this worry increased.

Cheri was awarded a Victory Scholarship to continue her training, which has allowed her to shift focus completely to her recovery, without the fear of the financial burden.
