Meet Alex
Getting ready to head into high school, Alex was quickly becoming a rising wrestling star. In the summer of 2022, he decided to attend a wrestling camp to improve and develop his skills. While attending camp, Alex sustained a C4 spinal cord injury during a training exercise.
While he was at inpatient rehab, Alex saw improvement with both his arm and leg movements and was eager to continue in his recovery journey at an outpatient facility. Soon after, Alex’s family learned that insurance will not provide coverage for any additional services. With Alex’s mom being out of work, as she became his primary caregiver, Alex and his family didn’t know how he would be able to continue making progress.
Alex is determined and motivated to regain as much independence as possible, as he would like to be able to do activities with his friends, learn to drive one day and participate in adaptive sports. Also, as Alex gains more independence, his mom is hopeful that she will be able to return to work, as he is the oldest of three siblings.
This past summer, Alex received a Victory Scholarship to continue attending activity-based training sessions on a consistent basis. We are excited to watch Alex continue to make tremendous gains and further his independence.
